Is My Algorithm Broken or Is This the Outfit of the Summer?

, I’ve been thinking a lot about outfit formulas. Kelly has such a knack for breaking down a look into digestible pieces so you can understand what you like about each element. Thinking about outfits as a formula has made it easier to understand why a look has piqued my interest. Maybe it’s not actually that JuJu Vera necklace I like, but the formula of a pendant necklace + a button up + linen pants.

Each new season, I find myself hyper-fixating on a new outfit formula. This past winter it was a sweater layered over a tee + jeans + loafers, like this.

Last summer, it was a billowy blouse + leg-baring bottoms + tall boots, as seen below.

And this summer, I find myself fully obsessed with this specific look that I’ve seen everywhere from

. The internet seems to share my fascination.

Prior to thinking in outfit formulas (what did I do before Kelly?!) I might have assumed I just liked these individual items, but by breaking the look down into pieces, I can see I like this specific combination of lace bottoms (not even necessarily shorts!) + a relaxed top + a statement shoe is what’s drawing me in. By breaking the look down into elements I can iterate on it without feeling restricted by wearing these exact pieces.

How I’m Shopping for the Formula
